Like has little to do with it. Strategic interest and raw power are the currency here.

Erdogan wants a new caliphate, a reborn Ottoman Empire with guess who at the helm. To this end, he supports the efforts of ISIS.

Putin didn’t all of a sudden decide that Syrian terrorists, ISIS or Turks are all of a sudden worthy sparring partners, he sees Syria as a gateway to the Med.

It is perhaps a symptom of the insanity of Obama that we reflexively look to personality rather than strategic interest when we size up the action of world leaders.

The strategic interests of the United States? Obama seems to be free of the influence that particular motive.
