These people are zealots. Their religion, secular as it is, is "climate change"/"global warming"/whatever they're calling it this week.

Really ... just observe how think act, how they think, how they respond to any comment or action outside their orthodoxy. "Climate change" is truly a religion to these people ... in every sense of the word (which explains why logic, reason, data and even reality doesn't work with them).
