I don’t think Putin will regard that as a bad thing. He has been trying repeatedly to deal with responsible leaders in the West, and all he has to work with is EU and US magical thinkers and decadents. The world is in a dire place right now, and the most powerful corner of the world is run by the insipid and deluded.

Exactly. I believe Putin would definitely prefer Trump in the WH than, say, HRC. Why? Simply because it's easier to talk to a strong person rather than a weak person. While it may seem illogical, it is true. A strong person will obviously not be easy to push around, BUT will be easier to talk to since the strong person is in a position of strength and confidence and thus doesn't need to 'prove' anything. A weak person, on the other hand, may be easier to push about BUT is also dangerous since they are always trying to 'prove they're strong' and thus are quite likely to take decisions that are not prudent.

Trump, being a strong person, would be able to have discussions with Putin that are very frank, very clear cut, give up no real ground, but at the same time do not unnecessarily throw sand in Putin's face 'just for the sake of it.'

I yearn for an accord between the United States, Russia, Israel and China to join resources to eradicate Islamic militancy and any who would support it - Moslem or not - from the face of the earth. Maybe deal in France under Marine Le Pen. That isn’t to make us besties or allies or anything beyond that one issue: reduce every aspiring jihadi or supporter of jihad to carrion.
