Any time there is an attack on civilians in the post-9/11 West, demagogues immediately blame it on Muslims. They frequently lack evidence, but depend on the blunt force of anti-Muslim bigotry to bolster their accusations.
Actual evidence, on the other hand, shows that less than two percent of terrorist attacks from 2009 to 2013 in the E.U. were religiously motivated. In 2013, just one percent of the 152 terrorist attacks were religious in nature; in 2012, less than three percent of the 219 terrorist attacks were inspired by religion.
The vast majority of terrorist attacks in these years were motivated by ethno-nationalism or separatism. In 2013, 55 percent of terrorist attacks were ethno-nationalist or separatist in nature; in 2012, more than three-quarters (76 percent) of terrorist attacks were inspired by ethno-nationalism or separatism.
These facts, nonetheless, have never stopped the prejudiced pundits from insisting otherwise.
On Friday the 13th of November, militants massacred at least 127 people in Paris in a series of heinous attacks.

Good Lord! How does Salon merit any journalistic credibility by citing an unsourced “statistic” to criticize “demagoguery” on the right unless they’re depending on the demagoguery of the left?
The statistics are skewed by the large number of smallish separatist incidents in Spain and France. Moreover, some violent acts may not be considered “terrorist.” “Religiously motivated” is also a slippery category. It all depends on how you define your terms.
Yes....I emphasized dangerously....because so many of them hold the levers of power.
This clown would recognize “actual evidence” if it hit him in the face.
These are the same Salon a-holes that after a white guy goes on a shooting spree blames ALL gun owners and blames ALL white Christians
The attack in Paris counts as one incident by oppressed muslims.
Extreme right wing ethno-nationalists have committed thousands of property crimes, by plastering their illegal and offensive flyers on public property.
Ethno-nationalists (horrible racists really) have committed over one million inexcusable criminal micro-aggressions over the same period.
The number of Islamist faux pas is dwarfed by the much more serious and overwhelmingly more numerous attacks by the politically subversive right wing. They must be silenced and rooted out, by any means necessary. If Islamists can help with that, great. </sarcasm off>.
Salon liberals like this idiot are as much a danger to this country as Islamo-fascists. They weaken the constitution and our security.
And there's actually very little you can say to change their minds. It's like talking to one of those goofs who is just determined to buy a cute little baby alligator to play with in the bathtub.
You just can't convince him that some day, and maybe sooner than you think...
This author has nothing important to say and should be ignored.
Remind me why we are quoting him?
When we see what is happening across the Land, makes one wonder if their are enough sane left to care or raise a arm to stop them. God Please have mercy some of us care.
He’d look real good wearing a reverse necktie.
There's no sense arguing or talking with such people. Their reality is whatever they want to make it that minute.
Muslims are responsible for many heinous acts around the world. In the USA and Europe they are enabled by liberal -A-holes like the author.
Do you think facts win arguments anymore?
I wonder if you might actually be on to something there. Perhaps the islamists chose Friday because they knew all "true" muslims would be at their mosque, and thus out of the line of fire.
WTF? This guy is in hard core absolute denial. Islam IS the problem, because its not just a religion, its a way of life, its a culture, its a mind virus. It leads to societies that breed evil that we see on display here, at a rate 100x higher than any other. To suggest otherwise is abject stupidity.
