My family is quite impressed with the whole state. This summer, we drove up to Chattanooga after dropping our daughter at Bama, and loved that area.
We live in California and are looking at retirement areas. I’m thinking the Tenessee /Alabama area is high on our list.
Our other daughter really liked Auburn! She’s at community college now and will be transferring in a year or 2. She’s ready for us to move to the south!
You should check out Huntsville AL next time you come to visit daughter.
I like to think of it as the Silicon Valley of the South . . . lots of high tech companies here, nice housing for great prices, decent energy costs . . . you can visit the Space & Rocket Center while in town.
We’ve been here about 22 years . . . I wasn’t so sure at first . . . I was like oh no . . . but we’re 100 miles from Nashville and 100 miles from Birmingham so for flights for a family of four I always check HSV, BHM and BNA for best prices.
Husband and son love to go to Nashville for the Tennessee Titan and now for the Nashville Predators.
Be sure and send me a message and I’d be happy to meet ya and take you to lunch~!!! Come on down South, we’d love to have ya and welcome you~!!! Now both my kids are @ Auburn. Love it~!
We have a little acreage across the state line in Tennessee that we hoped to build in . . . an equestrian friendly community with horses and plenty of space but with two in school they didn’t want to move and we didn’t want to move them . . .now maybe we will but its only 15 miles up the road, where I am we’re 4 miles from the TN state line, just barely north of Huntsville. Middle Tennessee is a very nice area too.
WAR EAGLE~!!!!
Pretty areas in state are numerous, I like the beach and the mountains in NE part of the state (around Chattanooga area you said you drove to). Google DeSota State Park and Little River (Canyon). If you want to get away from people, Mentone area is nice, but if you want urban luxuries perhaps a more populated environment like Huntsville is more to your liking.
