UAV downed by Turkey same type used in Ukrainian Conflict

Here are pictures of two UAVs.

The first picture was found by a Czech friend of mine (Jura) from a Ukrainian conflict blog and was found in the Ukraine in 2014 after it came down near Ukrainian forces.

The second is the UAV the Turks downed over their border with Syria this last week.

They are clearly the same type UAV.

If that 1st UAV was operating while assisting Ukrainian separatists, or if it was a part of the old Ukrainian inventory, then it clearly points to the second being of Russian origin.

We need to find out who makes this UAV.

I have not seen any place where this connection has been made and thought I would post it here on FR first.

FYI...could provide the link to Russia (which they deny) for the UAV downed by Turkey.

I don’t see drone recon as a threat to Turkey unless they are doing something they shouldn’t be

Erdogan is desperately trying to drag NATO into war with Russia over his plans for greater Turkey

I would say its a match. I wonder if it was following terrorists/rebels retreating and hiding in Turkey. Just a thought.

Why would Russia deny drone surveillance? They actually by Open Skies Treaty have the right to demand manned overflights over the Turkish side of the border, which they have requested and been denied

“Erdogan is desperately trying to drag NATO into war with Russia over his plans for greater Turkey”

BINGO!

And how do you shoot down something so small. How many bullets or rockets?

I am not denying the nefarious actions in the Middle East by several parties, including Turkey.

I am simply making the obvious tie. The drones are the same.

As to the question for why Russia would deny it?

1) They may have been doing recon on Turkey instead of ISIS. In fact, I would rate it as probable.

2) They do not want to take a hit in perception since they could not protect their own equipment.

Electronic warfare will bring down such UAVs, which are inexpensive and not usually hardened against it and do not carry counter measures.

The only apparent damage is the result of the crash IMHO.

Turkey = ISIS and the other islamist groups
Turkey is the main supply line to the islamists in Western Syria trying to overthrow Assad ( islamist by all names under the Army of Conquest, Al Qaeda. Al Nusra, Muslim Brotherhood and yes, extremist caliphate seeking factions allied with the FSA to get US Qatari Turkish and Saudi funding and arms... This is not any kind of “ rebel army” seeking a democratic pluralist alternative government and their methods of dealing with Syrian civilians are equal or worse than Assad.

With islamist fleeing and weapons coming in, not to mention the Turks attacking the Kurds and vice versa, Russia would be insane to not monitor the border
With so many actors possessing Russian made equipment, it would be hard to sort out who is spying in who and for what
For example The Ukranian govt has offered to help islamists kill Russians in Syria and no doubt our CIA would pose no objections

That’s it? That’s the drone? We can buy better ones from Amazon. But look at the scary guns on it, pointed upward to defend against fighter attacks. It’s definitely military origin!

Any UAV, that can give a real time image of the battlespace, is very helpful.

We have similar lower tech drones launched by our army personnel...much smaller than a Predator or Reaper, that give the local units good intel of the opposition.

Here are two more pictures of the unit downed in the Ukraine:

This was from the following site:

http://ru.tsn.ua/politika/v-sbu-pokazali-foto-sbitogo-rossiyskogo-bespilotnika-kotoryy-shpionil-na-donetchine-368801.html?g=article&m=384000364

The English translation indicates:

The Security Service of Ukraine showed pictures of a UAV, downed the day before, May 28. It is a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle ( UAV ) with video and audio equipment and an unknown substance on board.

According to a preliminary examination, the unit is probably a production versions of the Russin UAV "Orlan-10" with a parachute landing system . The "Orlan-10" is used as a part of air reconnaissance, surveillance and monitoring . It is used by Russia, in particular, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, as a reconnaissance plane, able to pictures and create maps of the area. Depending on version and the installed modules, the "Orlan-10" can carry an onboard imager, camera, camcorder, geostabilizer, radio, and repeater.

The drone was shot down on May 28 when it flew over the Ukrainian security forces checkpoint near Donetsk. Experts say that on board was an unknown substance that could be for self-destruction.
