This mayor wants to publicize who’s on welfare and where they live

If you receive government assistance in the state of Maine, Lewiston Mayor Robert Macdonald thinks the public has a right to know about it.

In a Thursday column for the Twin City Times, Macdonald said a bill will be submitted during Maine’s next legislative session “asking that a Web site be created containing the names, addresses, length of time on assistance and the benefits being collected by every individual on the dole.”

He added: “After all, the public has a right to know how its money is being spent.”

Proposals to target welfare recipients and reform assistance programs have become lightning rods for broader discussions on how the poor are treated and how taxpayer dollars are used.

Kansas lawmakers received both national criticism and praise this summer after approving a law limiting how people in the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program can use their benefits. And at least 13 states have some sort of drug testing laws for public public assistance applicants or recipients....

Had a Team SGT misspell some snacks we had at our make-shift bar in Thailand years ago...he labeled them as “Shimp Flies” as opposed to “Shimp Fries”, it was pretty funny back then, and when I see them now, I still call them shimp flies :D :D

HIPPA is crap.

I had an experience recently that infuriated me.

A for profit company called Healthport in Georgia handled my Massachusetts medical records.

God knows who saw them.

You are a teacher? I would privatize the school system so you’d have nothing to worry about.

SS
I suppose you include people who paid into FICA for 50 or better years being on welfare because the Govt is returning what they ‘stole’ from us?

You have the same logic as Clinton when he made the statement that if he was a draft dodger so were all of us 17-18 year olds that ENLISTED in the Navy or Marines or AF or Army or Coast Guard because we signed up before we got drafted.
Good logic

Sorry. No sympathy here.

My dad’s name and address was published in the local newspaper along with everyone else who got a concealed carry license.

It’s always sad to come across someone missing such an important chip. It must make life so painful.

Those people did not "pay into FICA". That's political rhetoric just like algore's infamous "lock box". FICA is a tax and the money goes into general revenue just like all other taxes. Social Security payments are senior welfare, plain and simple.

Social Security illustrates my point better than any other welfare program. Just try to make a change to Social Security and watch seniors coming out of the woodwork to howl in protest. The Democrats falsely accuse the Republicans of wanting to abolish Social Security every election cycle precisely because they know it will cause a reaction. This is exactly why welfare recipients should not be allowed to vote.

The new law should include 3 additional elements:
1) a system for private citizens to report benefit fraud, with financial awards for cases where fraud is successfully stopped.
2) Huge penalties and prison terms for government employees who creating fraud so that accomplices could unmask it for a split of the reward.
3) Lifetime cut off from benefits for those caught cheating.

In Maine alone, there are probably thousands of cases of things like claiming dependent children borrowed to take to the benefits interview, fake disabilities, multiple identities, non-residents, benefits mailed to other states and countries, people who work off the books, etc. Individuals and law firms would be all over this to get a few hundred bucks per successful case, resulting in millions in savings.

= = = = = = = = = =
Do you just flap your lips or read what is written?

Where did I say THEY paid into FICA?
Yes Gore was ‘full of it’ with his lockbox BS.

If you worked for me and I took 7 or 15% of your pay ‘for your future’ and 50 years later I were to say ‘Ooops, I spent it on something else’...THAT IS who you should be having the discussion with ‘ the ‘ I spent it on something else crowd’

Whether FICA is a tax or not is moot. It was CHARGED to the WORKING PUBLIC - like most govt programs the original thought was probably done in good faith BUT the current pol insists on using the ‘so called funds’ on everything from druggies to bums to illegals and sort of forget who paid into it.
Heard some ambulance chasing lawyer advertising today that if you can’t lift 10 pounds or stand for long periods of time you qualify for SS ..

Yes, a 25 year old on SS because he is a drunk or druggie or can’t lift 10 pounds is ridiculous... AGAIN - go after the clowns that allow this crap.
Your ‘theory’ on SS is along the line with my Clinton example (which you probably didn’t get that far).

Will it include the names an addresses of everyone who works for the government? Of all retired elected “officials”?

Will they name the top management of organizations heavily supported by taxpayer dollars? All the university “professors” who never teach a class? Corporate CEO’s whose company’s depend on government subsidies? Farmer’s paid not to grow crops?

I have a better idea. For ALL elections, at every level, prohibit donations or funding of any kind - including “in kind” (are you listening PAC’s?) from anyone except individuals. In any amount .. no limit. But your name and city of residence must be reported in candidate’s website before funds are available.

Invasion of privacy? I thought the right to give money to political campaigns was protected as “free speech”. And it can’t be speech if you don’t want to be heard.

You said it right here:

"I suppose you include people who paid into FICA"

Did you forget?

Talking or trying to talk to you is like talking to my cat.

They look like they understand but haven’t a clue.

You are one piece of work.

It is senseless for me to even try to communicate with you, take the blinders off now and then.

Remember in life people sometimes put blinders on, and like the saying says, unless you are the lead dog (or horse), the view never changes.

Why do you choose to compare apples and oranges. What other countries do is irrelevant, for one, and has nothing to do with what I said, for two. Go back to my original comment. Seriously.
