>My G Grandfather and two of his Brothers fought at Chickamauga with the 18th Alabama.

Two of my great grandfather’s brothers served in the 18th Alabama Infantry Regiment. The family also had brothers and cousins in the 17th and 28th, and another with the CS Marines who was captured when CSS Atlanta was forced aground by 2 Yankee monitors. We lost every male member of the family 13 years or older.

I have read the history of the 18th Alabama and think they could rightly be credited as responsible for the victory. They charged the Union lines twice and were repulsed. The third time they made it and began rolling up the entire Union front.

While I am a second generation American, I reflect on the men in the plaques that I read about, that stood the line here and charged there as though they really are my ancestors, though they are’t, they are, by adoption. I pray for them amd thank them the same. It’s funny though, when a fellow onlooker recounts his family member, and I remember mine....is his! Both those on God’s side.
