You do understand that .308 is only a Diameter.

Now .308 Winchester and 7.62 X 51 MM are cartridges.

Oh. So when someone says they have a .45 or .357 we don’t really know what he is shooting ...

What about a 410?

No! .308 is just a NUMBER. And most commonly refers to the .308 Winchester.

If you are specifying diameter you should say:

.308” DIAMETER bullet.
