Republicans/conservatives : No one eats their own like we do.

Posted on 09/19/2015 10:47:37 AM PDT by BuckeyeGOP

I don't post a lot here but I do pop in and skim threads frequently from time to time especially during politically charged periods like now. I expect this to be a place where people of like ideology can discuss the good and bad about our candidates always keeping the greatest vitriol reserved for the other side. That's not the case though. If I were reading many of these threads posted here without an identifier of what website they were from, I honestly wouldn't be able to tell whether they were Dummies thread or Freeper threads. Threads here are filled with lib-like pack mentality attacks on our candidates. Someone posts a nasty comment about Jeb, or Fiorina, or Rubio or whoever and suddenly there is an explosion of hateful, often personal, attacks attempting to lay a case for why they are unfit to be POTUS. You never see this on the other side. It's as though on one hand we discount the bias media, but on the other we run with their criticisms, legitimize them, and act as though it's fine as long as WE are the one's spewing it.

I wonder how Reagan would be criticized now by our own if today were his time, and not 1980. The 20/20 hindsight knee jerk is to say we would love him. I call BS on that. Many of the same people bashing the good candidates we currently have in the bullpen today would be bashing candidate Reagan just as hard for the same superficial crap or irrelevant and inconsistant past flaws, no doubt feeding out of the trough of the MSM.

Ultimately this country cannot stand another obama-esque liberal administration. That is the most basic, fundamental goal we all need to embrace and fight against. There is a well coordinated army on the other side bashing and palinizing our candidates with surgical precision and methodology. They don't need us, but they certainly love us for helping them.

Don't misunderstand, there's nothing wrong with criticizing, I freely admit I hope Jeb fades away on one hand, while Trump the character worries the hell out of me on the other. That being said, I refuse to use the tactics of the other side to destroy the ones I don't agree with on OUR side...(and yes, they are still on our side whether you like it or not). Party loyalty is not an option, it's a necessity for us to win...that is reality. The Dems have mastered that, while we continue to fail at it. Loyalty not only by the candidate but more importantly by the voters...(us).

Whoever makes it out of the Dem nomination will no doubt be a propped-up, heavily flawed, injured, and most importantly an EASILY beatable candidate. Let's not beat ourselves...because that's the only way a dem wins again.

Look at how the Republicans supported Mittens! How many stayed home because Mitt was a Mormon, or was “Plastic” or made his dog ride on the roof of his car. Hypocrits let Obama win a second term—They would let Obama win a 3rd Term if Trump was the Republican Nominee. Why? They don’t like past stands on Hillary or Pro-Choice or any other thing. He has Funny Hair! He’s from NEW YORK CITY! He’s not what they think is a Conservative—a Mix of Ronald Reagan and the Millionair in the Monopoly Game. They would rather have a mixed up communist run things! Go vote for Hillary or Bernie Sanders to finish off whats left of America. Ask yourself this question—if their is a crisis (yes this will happen) and it looks like war with Russia or China—or both. Who do you want in the White House? Carly? Jeb Bush? Rubio? or Trump?

Party Loyality is not an option for me. Never again will I vote for the lesser of two evils. I will vote Christian Conservative or I won’t be voting. Period.
To vote because of party loyality is UnChristian and UnAmerican in my opinion.

It all depends on who you consider your own. I don’t intend to vote for anyone who isn’t my own. I won’t vote for Carl Rove’s own. Leaves me with two candidates.

I’m not longer a registered member of the Grand Old Progressive party, so I don’t care whom eats whom amongst that bunch. Pretty much they all deserve to be eaten anyway except Cruz and Trump.

some republicans are for eclecticism and status quo. They are not going to be able to prevent the country from turning into a hellhole.

I wonder how Reagan would be criticized now by our own if today were his time, and not 1980.

In 1980 the ACU and CPAC were extremely vitriolic in their personal attacks on the B movie star union official who was really a Democrat and only recently claiming to be a Republican. Even in 1982 the attacks on Reagan from Republicans and Conservatives were extremely ad hominem.

It was only after Reagan won again in 1984 that he slowly morphed into an icon.

We have a long, long history of eating our own.

Cruz, Santorum and Huckabee compete for the same religious right establishment. Thus Huckabee is extremely un-Christian when Cruz is around. But Cruz can be very Christian when Trump is around as Trump isn’t competing to be the “Christian” candidate.

I’m so tired of this talk of “circling” the wagons around the GOP. Every election cycle we’re told, in essence, to vote for the lesser of two evils and we end up with an establishment candidate for president like McCain, Dole, and Romney who get hammered in the election. Conservatives gave the GOP huge votes in 2010 and 2014 and for what? Nothing. The House and Senate have done nothing to stop the administration and now you’re giving us a lecture about sticking together. Sorry pal. No way. The establishment of the GOP has said FU to conservatives and wants no part of taking on the president and the Democratic Party. Why then vote for a Republican Party that has no principles, and no BACKBONE to fight the left!!!! If the party splinters or crumbles to ash it’s their fault. You want to keep fighting for that Buckeye then that’s your business. The conservatives, who are keeping the Republican Party afloat, have been made to feel unwelcome and won’t vote anymore for a political party that openly despises them and their ideas.

Define “our own”, as most of the candidates running for president so far are not conservative, and thus not “our own”.

“I honestly wouldn’t be able to tell whether they were Dummies thread or Freeper threads. “

Thats what happens when liberals invade conservative forums and rent zotted on sight. Cancer spreads.

Conservationism isn’t hard to understand. And most of what passes for it these days simply isn’t conservatism. What some call catty, others call “standing up for ones beliefs’.

I agree with one caveat. Bush is not on our side and must be stopped at all costs.

Look you are never, ever gonna get total unanimity on any side of the political spectrum. Have people forgot that lots of mushy moderate types on the right refused to vote for Reagan? Many sat home or voted for Anderson (a Republican House member who got 6% of the vote).

The Democrats lost almost 3% of the vote to Nader in 2000, who many may not remember was also able to pack auditoriums the way Ron Paul, Sanders and Trump do.

And every cycle we go through here on FR you get the “I’ll never vote for x or y, or anyone but such and such candidate”. Last cycle it was mostly Palin folks who were determined to write her in no matter that it would make no difference. This time it may be Trump people that think he is the only one worth voting for. And, predictably, we always get the crowd who claim they are going to make a difference voting 3rd party. In 2012 it was the Constitution Party which was going to rise up and be a difference maker, instead it failed miserably.

This is all very predictable really. Through the primaries people will argue and battle it out because this is the time when one really gets to pick their candidate. Once we get to a general election it is almost always going to be voting for the lesser of 2 evils - and that is not going to change in our winner take all 2 party system that has no opportunities for coalition government.

In 1980 the ACU and CPAC were extremely vitriolic in their personal attacks on the B movie star union official who was really a Democrat and only recently claiming to be a Republican. Even in 1982 the attacks on Reagan from Republicans and Conservatives were extremely ad hominem.

That's not how I remember it. Reagan spoke at CPAC 12 times. "In his 1985 speech, he referred to CPAC as his "opportunity to dance with the one that brung ya", referring to CPAC having been a contributing factor to his political success" [Wikipedia].

ACU’s key successes in this period were the fight against SALT II, employing most of the same mechanisms used in the Panama Canal campaign, its leadership in coalitions that defeated national health insurance and secured trucking industry deregulation, a strong protest against U.S. abandonment of historic ties to the Republic of China, and its involvement in the 1980 Reagan campaign. Several of ACU’s directors and staffers participated in the campaign and went on to serve in the Reagan Administration while Reagan himself, as president, would speak at every CPAC except one during his eight years in office. - See more at: http://conservative.org/acu-history/#sthash.fngF3kXa.dpuf [ACU website]

It is true that Phil Crane ran against Reagan in 1980, and that after Reagan's defeat in 1976, M. Stanton Evans and William Rusher talked third party, but I don't see any trace of ACU or CPAC opposition to Reagan.

Conservatives were grateful in those days to have anybody in the White House who came close to their views and Reagan certainly fit the bill. There were stray voices about Reagan's Hollywood connections and divorce, but I don't see them as having been ideologically motivated. In his second term, Reagan did face criticism from neocons who thought he trusted Gorbachev too much.

There is a balance. We want a choice, not a echo of the liberal lines (due goes to Phillis Schlafly for that wording).

In politics as in war, there are covert operations going on. You do not want to be so nicey nice that you turn over control to the enemy. We do not have to be suckers.

At the same time we do not want to create a situation where we have mutually assured destruction before the general election even begins. The problem is that some aim at the frontrunners. Some aim at the candidates they thing are “taking away votes” from their candidate. All of it is unfair.

The answer: Stick to issues. Fight issues. Attack issues. If you agree with someone, great. Let the voters choose. If you disagree, fight the issue, not the person.

This would be great advice if we weren’t dealing with an opposition party completely in the tank with corporate lobbyists and a track record to prove it from last November.

That’s because there are only 2 viable Parties...As I see it the ‘official’ Republican Party represents big money, big business...These people have control of the Republican Party...

There are millions of us who do not fit into that mold but we certainly aren’t Democrats...

The Republican Party is called the ‘big tent Party’ for that reason...I have no ties to the Republican Party other than the politicians I vote for are Republicans (because there’s no other viable Party for them to go to)...
