Simple: it’s because he’s his own man, willing to say what he thinks rather than what his handlers have told him what he should say. He’s one of the few who actually thinks for himself.
As I’ve posted elsewhere:
Here in fly-over land Trump is enjoying huge supportand it is growing.
My assessment is based on my own informal and hardly scientific poll (spoke with the guys at the gym, local friends, a few police officers, fellow instructors, and my neighbors):
1) Trump has certainly attracted much support. . .even from my liberal friends. Less support from fellow college instructors, but many more than I thought possible.
2) Most support Trumps stance on illegal aliens. We in Texas see the issue up close and how it directly affects usand its cost in welfare and social support services, as well as crime, and the cost of educating anchor-babies/DREAMERS in Spanish.
3) They like his approach to politics in generalhe plays by his own rules, not establishment rules. No one tells him what to do. The rebel spirit is alive.
4) Trump does not put-up with PC demands to cower when complaints from the perpetually aggrieved are hurled his way.
5) They are fed-up with politics as usual where the media and political class tell them what is important an what candidates to support.
6) Fox News moderating the first debate generated a lot of support for Trump because it was clear from the first question, Fox was gunning for Trump. . .Fox News Fair and Balanced? Not hardly. No one likes attacks aimed at destroying someone, especially someone that enjoys much support. To attack like Fox did was to entrench his supporters and push people to Trump. No, Fox News, you are not smarter than me, I will support who I want and because you attacked him, that make me like Trump as he must have something going for him if you attacked him (a gym-rat buddy). He went on to say; I will NOT support an anointed candidate (Obama and now Jeb). I will support who I want for my own reasons, not because you arrogantly tell me who to support or not support. (thanks but no thanks, Krauthammer, Hume and Baier)
7) People resent it deeply when they are told they should be supporting a certain candidate and if they dont, they are crazies (thanks John McCain, thanks Rove).
8) My friends, neighbors and guys at the gym respect Trump. While they may generally be conservative or republican in their political outlook, they are willing to give Trump a chance because he understands business and this great nation is on the verge on bankruptcy, many say a businessman is necessary to get us out of this messeven one that has personally faced bankruptcythat person (Trump) knows what to do. Besides, if Obama can rule (make law) with a pen and a telephone, so can Trump.
9) Conservative/republican, they are willing to give Trump a chance because the current Republicans running the House and Senate have failed by caving to Obama at every turn, except Cruz. Cruz is respected for fighting even when he knew he was going to fail. It cant hurt to put Trump in the White House (Obama has hurt American deeply and Trump would be better because he will pursue a pro-America, not pro-global or pro-specific political party agenda). Besides, the other parties had their chances. It is time for something completely different.
10) Police I know despise the Republican field as they see no support from anyone (except Cruz. Cruz was NOT Me Too? when the other candidates saw how much traction and support Trump received when he took on crime and Obamas tacit support for BLM and anti-police rhetoric (Obamas if I had a son moment during the Travon Martin criminal attack on George Zimmerman is NOT forgotten).
11) The police strongly support Trump attacking illegal alien supporters that reside in the White House, Congress, the media and in both major political parties. They are impressed by his strength of character and willingness to take on not only the political establishment, but the media as well (Jose Ramos, thank you very much).
12) Basically, they are looking for someone that is willing to fight, be strong, be unapologetically American, to put America first when dealing with the world and someone that knows the real world no longer respects the US (thanks Obama) nor do our enemies fear us (thanks Obama, times two).
13) People in my area find Trump refreshing and something they have been looking forward to for a long time: a non-professional politician that is not scripted, staged, focused-grouped to death, that needs a teleprompter when speaking longer than 5 minutes. Trump has a core value: make America Great Again, and the courage of his conviction to do so.
14) People, my friends, neighbors, police and others Ive met and spoke with are tired of the professional politicians that has been running for office since the first grade, weary of the politician that never has a hair out of place, cant speak without using an focus-grouped approved talking point, and they are annoyed by the politicians that yank off their jacket and roll-up their sleeves when jumping energetically onto some stage somewhere (really, can this attempt to be manipulated be any more transparent?), and more than a few are irked by politicians that dont use a finger to point. . .but a thumb. Whats up with that, they ask?
15) Almost all have said with gleeful anticipation they are waiting for the media to breathlessly report on the latest Trump gaff that will bury his candidacy. (How many times has his political obituary been written?).
Just my observation from Texas. . .
