But to stay on topic, I think the best I’ve had only because I can’t afford steakhouses often, is Morton’s. We went to the Beverly Hills one once, just me and my teen boy, and he ate the whole double filet on bone. I tasted it: being cooked with the bone gave the filet amazing taste. I’d attempt to order it on the bone ever again if someone took me to a steakhouse...

At home I buy grassfed steaks and cook them carefully. It’s so much cheaper to eat steak at home. They say only the bevvys make $ for a restaurant, that they lose a bit of $ on the food, but I think that on the big steaks they still make a profit... Remember, the advantage of grassfed over feedlot beef is that the meat is HEALTHIER for your body. Grass is what cattle were meant to eat, and a steer who pretty much always gets it has fat that has healthy omega 3s, unlike the fat of grain fed animals. If you’re a good carnivore you must learn to eat healthy animals who led a decent life.

Part of the attraction/charm of steak houses is the ambience. But I totally agree with you..you can have a GREAT steak at home for a fraction of the cost..and it's really easy. First, buy a good pieced of meat..all you need is a good cast iron skillet..season with salt and pepper...lightly rub..I use grapeseed oil..it stands up to high heat..then sear on the stove..high heat..both sides..about 2-3 minutes per side..then finish in a 325 oven...to desired doneness..which is a function of how thick the steak is..check often..let it rest,, tented..10-15 minutes...YUM!!

What we need now is a great recipe for creamed spinach...

Grass fed cattle are leaner than corn fed cattle. Plus most of the time grass fed also means grazing which leads to tougher meat. So I must disagree and say the best steaks are corn fed cattle lot. That yields a well marbled tender steak. I don’t give value judgements to my carnivorous habits. “Good Carnivore”? That is funny! What is a “bad carnivore”?
