HOUSTON -- When you first walk into a classroom at the Houston Independent School Districts newest campus, it seems like any other classroom on the first day of school. But look and listen more closely, and youll realize this one is in a class of its own.
Parents are here because they chose to be here, said Terry Grier, HISDs superintendent.
Grier was on hand for the Monday opening of HISDs new Arabic Immersion Magnet School (AIMS), the nations first public immersion school for the Arabic language.
District officials say 132 Pre-K and Kindergarten students from many different ethnic backgrounds were chosen through a competitive admissions process. Theyll spend half their day learning in English, the other half in Arabic, a language Grier hopes can eventually give students a competitive advantage in a global city and job market.

This is what happens when you allow enough muzzies into the country. Always remember that every muzzie is a potential jihadist. Read their unholy book, dammit.
Scoff at me when the Texas Beslan occurs.
These aren’t muzzies doing this. It’s left wing college educated s.o.b.s.
While I can understand that the power of the Muslim lobby in the United States is gaining a concerning amount of clout, as a student of the Arabic language, I would speak out against condemning this school wholesale.
As a language, Arabic is very influential in the world today. Despite what one thinks about Islam, its language is a force that we must learn to deal with in terms of foreign policy, for it influences the vocabulary and ideals of many countries and societies. It is a language of commerce and of the oil industry.
Let us not forget that Arabic is a sacred and liturgical language to people other than hardline Muslims. The Bahais use the language on their tablets, which is descended from the Sufis. There is a rich heritage of Jewish literature in Arabic and its descendents. The rite for many Maronites in Lebanon is composed in Arabic, as well as for many Eastern Christians. It deserves that place due to its sublime vocabulary and its logical morphology.
The potential the Arabic language possesses has spurred a rich canon of philosophy, science, and apologetics. One does not need to look far into Islamic history to discover that many enlightening works were composed by Syriacs and Jacobites in the Abbasid court in Baghdad.
So let’s not condemn the language or condemn an attempt to teach others this language while we keep a watch on the true danger.
That’s what we did. We held signs to get QATAR OUT. The other problem here is that some 20 mil English Language Learners cannot speak English well. I do not think this district can handle the mission with the budget problems, the lack of proficiency in English and the clock hours taken away in content. I think Arabic can be taught through the 75K strong Arabic strong community on private dollars. Or as an elective in high school. It failed in 4 schools already.
