“The last target of military value, Eaker AFB (located near Blytheville, AR) shut down over 20 years ago.”
Likewise for places like Fernald Enrichment plant and Nuclear Foundry near Cinci, the Newport Chemical Weapons Depot near Lafayette, the Kingsbury Ammo Plant (that has been closed since the 60’s), Bakalar Air Force Base, Grissom, etc.
All of these so-called “Target Lists” come from either the “Nuclear Attack Planning Base 1990”, which was compiled in the late 80’s, or the “report TR-72 High Risk Areas of the United States Report”, which is much older.
With the info being 25-30 years out of date, you’ have to be an idiot to buy these books.
An old boss of mine was a map interpreter for the military (Air Force?) during the Cold War. Helped make decisions on where to drop the bombs. It sounded like they would have them on a rotation based on whatever new info they had, and not being able to target all of them at the same time.
I recall a science convention and we were eating a fancy meal seated with a bunch of Russians (1998 or so).
He asked one guy where he was from.
“I’m from Novosbruk, it is a town....”
“Oh yeah - I know where that is. We had that targeted with our nukes because of the shipyard. How about you Ivan - where’s you from?”
He did that with every guy, with a similar response for each city!
