It’s hard to comment on a matter of faith: that poverty is a curse laid down on Adam and we would all be better off laying on the sofa with someone dropping grapes in our mouths. That sort of thinking is an invitation to the welfare state.
Look at God’s actual words:
Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground
To say that “That sort of thinking is an invitation to the welfare state” is to presume that others are simple-minded.
I just thought about the daily life of the average Cheyenne man back in the 1700s, as compared with that of an agricultural man.
Lots of men who were accepted into Indian tribes had no interest in returning to civilization.
