You could say something similar about empires. But the people who are slaves and those who are unwilling subjects of empires object.

If somebody told you that they were going to take over and run your life for your own good, you might object and rebel.

Why be surprised when other people don't go along with plans to run their lives for them if you wouldn't submit to such plans yourself?

Slavery would have died probably sooner and with less damage and harm to all by simply allowing the economics of it to make it profitable and a liability.

Nobody had a crystal ball that was going to tell them, say, that years after the Civil War -- because of Civil War and fears of a cotton shortage -- people all over the world would be growing enough cotton to depress the price. Nobody had a crystal ball to tell them that 80 -90 years after the Civil War, cotton production would be mechanized.

People rely on the information they have at the time. Somebody could tell you that whatever it is that you fear or hate now will go away on its own because of economics. You wouldn't believe them. And you'd be right not to, since nobody can predict the future that well.

Look around you right now. People being lead by the Cultiural Marxist media and devout Cultural Marxist in government are indeed taking over and running peoples lives. Look in the news today and see how many times they have used Cultural Marxism aka Political Correctness to do it. Can't have that Confederate flag it was a symbol of oppression. Can't speak against the Transperverts or refuse the queers a wedding cake that's oppression Punishable by monetary loss.

These stinking Cultural Marxist Bastards are destroying the nation because not agreeing with them or some other made victim by media and government decree group may offend their victimhood. That doesn't take a Crystal Ball to see it happening.

This is a excerpt from an essay written by Bill Lind on Cultural Marxism

Where does all this stuff that you’ve heard about this morning – the victim feminism, the gay rights movement, the invented statistics, the rewritten history, the lies, the demands, all the rest of it – where does it come from? For the first time in our history, Americans have to be fearful of what they say, of what they write, and of what they think. They have to be afraid of using the wrong word, a word denounced as offensive or insensitive, or racist, sexist, or homophobic.

We have seen other countries, particularly in this century, where this has been the case. And we have always regarded them with a mixture of pity, and to be truthful, some amusement, because it has struck us as so strange that people would allow a situation to develop where they would be afraid of what words they used. But we now have this situation in this country. We have it primarily on college campuses, but it is spreading throughout the whole society. Were does it come from? What is it?

We call it “Political Correctness.” The name originated as something of a joke, literally in a comic strip, and we tend still to think of it as only half-serious. In fact, it’s deadly serious. It is the great disease of our century, the disease that has left tens of millions of people dead in Europe, in Russia, in China, indeed around the world. It is the disease of ideology. PC is not funny. PC is deadly serious.

If we look at it analytically, if we look at it historically, we quickly find out exactly what it is. Political Correctness is cultural Marxism. It is Marxism translated from economic into cultural terms. It is an effort that goes back not to the 1960s and the hippies and the peace movement, but back to World War I. If we compare the basic tenets of Political Correctness with classical Marxism the parallels are very obvious.

The rest of the essay can be found here. The origins of political correctness
