I think you meant to say integration came about and segregation ended. At any rate I entered the Navy straight from high school in 1962 and it was fully integrated at that time. I couldn’t say exactly when segregation ended in the Navy.

I'm just guessing but I'd say the change came sometime under Ike. The ships weren't segregated as to a black crew ship or a white crew ship that wasn't what I was trying to say. I don't think that was true even for WW1. The available Ratings to black sailors were limited. IIRC Ratings had also been limited for P.I. sailors as well.

Thanks for correcting my post. Yeah I meant to say segregation ended in the 1960's. LOL
