ZDNET reporter James Kendrick writes today that he has ditched his MacBook office computer for an Acer Chromebook 13, which had impressed him when he reviewed it a while back. Battery life 11 hours.

He reports its price as $300. I see Walmart has them for around that price.

Walmart also has an ASUS 15.6" laptop for $229 and an HP 19.45" all-in-one desktop for $329. These come with Windows 8.1 installed (not my preference — if I were buying one, I'd first check around to see if it's reported to run Linux well).

Here is an ASUS that I saw at Amazons site.
ASUS with a touch screen and folding lid so it acts like a tablet. Windows 10 coming end of July.
