Soccer sucks.

J/K...women’s soccer is the one sport where watching the ladies version is as enjoyable as watching the men’s version.

Go USA!

it's time we wrap ourselves in Stars and Stripes, abandon our ambassadors and see reason — 17 reasons in fact — to dislike the opponent. We at Sporting News, as members of a global network, usually prefer to be worldly, cultured, accepting. But not on this day. On this day, in this post, you will find no cuddly koalas, no wee wallabies with their perfect little paws.

To pump you up, we've provided a laundry list of Australian transgressions — inspiration to fuel fans of the U.S.A., to make Australians kanga-rue the day they messed with America.

Is Holiday really the answer to play in a holding midfield role when her strengths are clearly on the attacking side of the game? Will Rapinoe's attacking presence be enough to take the pressure off? Will Lloyd be forced to track back and constantly help Holiday with defensive duties?

For the American team, my favorite remains as in previous years, Tobin Heath. Really, she’s not caught up in this stuff like some of the others. She’s pretty low-key. Not all this rowdy rubbish with her.

Agreed. Some contact is inevitable and had the Chinese player not had her arm extended, she might have gotten away with it. But the arm clearly was around the Canadian player's neck, and that's what pulled her down. Good call.

Without the arm extension, the Canadian player would probably have slid around the defender. Whether she might have made a play or not is unknowable, but she would not have gone down.
