The entire leftist movement is to erase actual history and replace it with a new version. None of this is without purpose. For the Obama movement, nothing worthwhile happened before Obama. If given their way then, they would renumber the calendar, and the year 2009 would be renumbered as the year 1, as that was the year Obama became president.
North Korea uses an alternate calendar which starts in the year of the birth of Kim Il Sung.
