The gun law in the CNMI was written by a Peace Corps volunteer in 1970, shortly after the media propaganda pushing for the Gun Control Act of 1968 convinced a legislator there that gun control was needed as a precautionary measure. At that time, the Mariana Islands did not come under the U.S. Constitution.
