Even Ike’s “draconian” (by modern standards) Operation Wetback had a guest worker program as a major component.
I don’t remember much about Ike’s administration policy wise. I need to read up on it. I just remember growing up back then was a great time to be an American. We didn’t lock our doors at night, families were intact and went to church, neighbors helped each other. At school we opened each day with prayer and the pledge of allegiance. I miss those days. We have to get them back for the sake of our kids and grandkids.
