I saw The Doobie Brothers and Don Felder (Eagles) last night and they still sound great.
Eagles are my all-time favorite. I never get tired of listening to them. I'm a believer in rock keeping us young!
The question asked was who’s my FAVORITE,
Probably The Who.
Early Jethro Tull is close.
Eric totally screwed up on heroin and still tormented in pain over his infatuation w Patty Whatshername who must be some sort of medusa.
That is such an awesome story. Duane Allman RIP.
Some of my BIG LIKES include; The Cure, with albums Disintegration, Wish, The Kiss and others. Todd Rundgren, with albums Something/Anything, A Wizard, a True Star, Initiation and others..... Laura Nyro; songwriter-singer of Eli’ is Coming, Stoned Soul Picnic, It’s Gonna Take a Miracle, And When I Die. Joni Mitchell on Heijra.
True about the similar sound however you could apply the same critique to any of the bands mentioned in this thread. It is the uniqueness of any bands’ sound that makes them good.
Loved Todd Rundgren.
Can’t claim they had any song or album considered great, but I was a big Utopia fan a few decades back.
I’d call SRV blues-rock. To me he’s the perfect blend of the two.
Guinness and Talisker, LOL
Foo Fighters!
EAGLES, but henley is such a douche.
Impossible to choose just one:
Steely Dan
Chicago
10cc
Allman Bros Band
Classics IV
Earth, Wind and Fire
Doobie Bros
Dire Straits
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Doors
Journey
KC & The Sunshine Band
Kool and the Gang
ELO
Manfred Mann
ZZ Top
The Who
The Ventures
Supertramp
Martha and the Vandellas
Enough for now. Time to go LISTEN!
The Beatles. No one else even comes close.
I’ve seen em both separately in their heyday. If you want a treat, check out Chicago/EWF 25 or 6 to 4 on youtube.
Verdine White, EWF bass player owns the stage.
The Beatles, then Jethro Tull. Aqualung rules!
Led Zep
Beatles
and one I haven’t seen mentioned ... Steppenwolf
So I’ve heard.
Skelton Knaggs and The Five Henchmen.
...Oh, and Under the catagory HAUNTING TUNES AND SYMPHONIES
“Tonight!, Tonight! Tonight!”, by Phil Collins,
Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield.
Tuesday Afternoon by Moody Blues.
Alladin Sane by David Bowie, with jazz piano improvisations by Mick Ronson.
Orchestral Performances of Classical and Minimalist:
Violin Concerto in E minor, Op 64. (Allegro)by the ledgendary Felix Mendelssohn
Vessels by Phillip Glass, on Koyaniskatsi
My tastes run to the slightly less mainstream.
Stuff I still like:
Early Journey (pre-Steven “shriek” Perry)
Early Yes (w/ Bruford on drums)
Early Genesis (until Steve Hackett left)
Dixie Dregs
Cream (Disraeli Gears)
Rush
80’s King Crimson (saw them in ‘84 at the Greek Theatre in Berserkeley)
Jeff Beck ‘75-’80
etc.
