Are diesel locomotive shielded or are the simple enough that they don’t need it? I would tend to doubt most diesel locomotives would survive if they have near the electronics of the average car.
Diesels can be 100% mechanical, no electronics.
The engines on locomotives are only hooked to a generator, not the wheels. If the generator is damaged, it can be repaired, and with no interconnect, can work isolated from other power sources.
If we have to resort to this stuff, it will be a game changer, but not impossible to handle one step at a time.
