Hiding your water and food and ammo? What are going to do when they run out?
Without violating OPSEC, lets just say running out of food, water & ammo is no longer our biggest concern in our current location.
Starvation and illness will take the fight out of most rampaging mobs, who will no longer rampage in an area that was already picked over multiple times.
Ideally situated, a prepper’s best friend could be a major EMP. Sick, starved hordes will not be able to travel as far to cause mayhem.
The first two rocket stoves seem to be the most highly rated (with numerous reviews and Youtube demo videos). All are priced similarly. The Deadwood, made of cast iron, will throw off much heat. The Stovetec is insulated with either vermiculite or perlite...to give off radiant heat for an extended time.http://www.deadwoodstove.com/......in Valera, Texas and Weesatche, Texashttp://stovetecstore.net/...in Eugene OR
Here is a unique stove. Pictured here is the portable backpacker stove. There is also a larger 'home' stove. What is unique that while cooking you can recharge your cellphone, run a led light or recharge rechargeable batteries through the USB port

I have the Deadwood stove.

With your defeatist attitude, I don't think you will live long in a country wide emergency/breakdown. If you research what mobs actually do, inner city mobs stay where they are familiar and rob/kill in that area. By the time they try to move out to other areas, they are weaker and many will die from infighting among themselves, plus there won't be gasoline for vehicles before they move out, so there is less of them and no fast way to travel. I doubt many Freepers live in inner cities where there is already violence.
Keeping a low profile makes one safer. No one living around me knows what I have and in an emergency, they still won't know.
It is true that stored food will eventually run out - so it's important to know how to grow food and start growing it at the first sign of an emergency if one doesn't already have a garden growing.
Throwing seed on the ground won't do it. I made an effort to learn how to grow food and I did it - I grew it from seed and I have seed stored in a way that keeps it viable.
One must provide for a way to keep water coming in and a way to purify it. I have provided for that.
No one can know exactly what will happen, but I prefer to give myself a chance - provide for myself staying alive - it sounds like you aren't giving yourself a chance - that you have given up. Maybe you think federal government FEMA will save you - good luck with that.
True that.
Giving up before the fight actually starts is a SURE way to make sure that you fail.

So what would you do if you don’t have anything to start with?
roll over and die?

OK, so you’ll be among the five per cent who survive beyond the first year after an EMP attack. Lotsa luck in years two and three!
I love you. I will marry you if you permit.

I’ll wager that 85 to 90% of the US population lives within a couple of days walk from an “inner city” — a/k/a “mob land.” That means the mobs will be able to steal most of the foodstocks in short order.
In other words, perhaps 10 to 15% of the population won’t be affected right away by the mobs. But among those that do survive, the stocks of food and water will run out within a year or two for everybody other than the one or two per cent who are full-fledged preppers and who live in defensible redoubts.
So yeah, maybe one or two per cent of the population will still be alive after three or four years. And my guess is that the Chinese occupation forces will eventually have them under effective control.
“I love you. I will marry you if you permit.”
Finally, I get a marriage proposal from you. I know you love TheOldLady, too, so what are you going to do about her? :o) (Has Obama approved three way marriage yet?) :o)
That’s the spirit. Not.
You’ll be one of the first whiners begging for food/help.
I am already very happily married, but I do love dear Laz for
a close friend and brilliant political pundit and essayist.
Bigamy is not an option, of course. Besides, he lives very far
away from me and Bryan.
It’s a joke.
I play.
I might gotta stop joking around. Too many people taking me all serious-like.
>> Thats the spirit. Not. <<
Some folks on this thread seem to be wearing rose-colored glasses. Fine. That’s their prerogative.
But as for me, I’d rather be a realist. And what I believe in my heart-of-hearts is that if the U. S. gov’t and private industry both don’t make it a high priority to “harden” our electronics and our power grid against the effects of an EMP bomb and/or a Carrington Event, I don’t see how the USA can survive longer than another 30 or 40 years.

Oh, Laz, we know you joke and we love you for it. Then, you will turn around and write a serious article. We know the difference. We also know you “hit” on women. :o) Tell you what - if you are prepared for a total breakdown of power, many women will be attracted to your preps. They may “hit” on you at that time.
I have never been so motivated to buy dollar-store duct tape in my life.
