Or, given that he apparently was willing to assault an officer and take his weapon, maybe he would have done something more serious. To me it’s not just obvious that he wasn’t a danger to other people. That’s why the common law allowed cops to shoot fleeing felons: they are potentially dangerous to other people. SCOTUS has apparently narrowed the law but the basic principle is still there.
