Mychal Smith, writing in PBSs Race Today, has declared that equal opportunity between Americans is racist. The stunning comment came in a piece Smith wrote for PBS titled, White Millennials are products of a failed lesson in colorblindness.
Smith begins his article by commenting on all of the white protesters that he saw in Ferguson and New York City over the past year. While it would sometimes give him hope, when it comes to white people, he wrote, I know better than to place too much hope in these optics.
Indeed, according to Smith, Millennials are fluent in colorblindness and diversity, while remaining illiterate in the language of anti-racism.
...One of the major problems, according to Smith, is that its nearly impossible for black people to be racist because of the power dynamics at play in the United States.
Millennials have inherited a world in which the idea of reverse racism has been legitimized, he writes, but reverse racism only makes sense through the erasure of the power dynamics of racism, which has been accomplished through the teaching of racism as a strictly interpersonal issue of hatred and intolerance.
Smith writes that whites have been foolishly taught Everyone is equal and therefore everyone has equal opportunity for success. But this is deficient according to Smith because strict equal opportunity is racist.
We have spent the post-Civil Rights era concerned with whether or not there is adequate representation for racial minority groups within our existing institutions, he writes, not questioning whether these institutions are fundamentally racist and rely on white supremacy for their very existence.
...He continues, equal opportunity is racist because it does not eliminate the power structure that white supremacists use to oppress minorities.

writing in RACE TODAY!!
see theres a HINT!!
I don’t recall axeing Mychal Smith for his opinion on anything...
A bakery has won the right not to make cakes with “anti-gay” decorations (like Bible verses).
Different laws for different people, the new Jim Crow.
Who mentions race first is the racist
I agree. It’s unfair to give an advantage to another group bqsed on their color alone because its an admission that they’re inferior....: )
Im surprised that black racists ..and thier guilt ridden white compatriots...havent claimed that the NEED of the WHITE MAN to maintain White PRIVILEGE..isnt based on his inherent...Inferiority...
I speak the jive language: Translation,I can’t get any of the white girls on the board behind me to ****my ****!
There is just no end to it, is there? It seems the only thing left to do is just ignore the angry rants.
People start from different premises, talk in different paradigms and don’t communicate.
One group sees it as the role of government to provide equal opportunity.
Another group sees it as the role of government to get out of the way and not create obstacles. The big government of Democrat Sheriff Bull Connor and Democrat Faubus stood in the way. In slavery times the big government of the sheriff and US Marshal enforced slavery.
The role of government and the use of force is separate from the role of individuals and groups of individuals organized as businesses and churches and clubs who do not have the use of force. That is the perspective of one group. But the other group does not see any difference.
A totally separate but important issue is the hijacking of the racial civil rights movement to serve the goals of mostly whites.
I was active (but not a leader) in the civil rights movement of the 60s as a Republican abolitionist/ integrationist. The racial civil rights movement was 90% controlled by well intentioned white liberals. They controlled the money and the movement followed the money, not the MLKs despite the mythology that the monied like to impose on history.
The Black Power movement of the late 60s was in direct reaction to control of the civil rights movement by rich white liberals. Whites now unable to lead the civil rights movement turned their energy and money to the war in Vietnam as the cause du jour and abandoned the racial civil rights movement.
Then the White liberal money, mostly controlled by women, shifted to the women’s movement and again abandoned the racial civil rights movement. Then the White liberal money focused on the gay agenda, again ignoring the racial civil rights movement.
Part of the blame is the short attention span of community organizers. It’s difficult to keep one’s morale up promising the “people” a better life through organizing when the success turns out to be no success at all...witness the housing mess.
Part of the blame is the Black leaders who kept hoping and going to ever more extreme guilt trips on the rich Whites to get their fair share of the civil rights money.
Part of the blame is the Conservatives who mostly abandoned any attempt to understand what was happening in the liberal side and attacking all of them as if they had no differences and could be written off.
There are other factors. It is complex. But I suggest racial resentments among Blacks are to a large part due to Blacks feeling abandoned by white liberals but not seeing it a viable option to bite the hand that feeds them.
Please update your calendar past 2008. The power dynamics have changed and your excuse is wearing pretty thin.
I can agree with that.
And a picture wasn't necessary - his mother adequately tagged his race when she named him.
“Who mentions race first is the racist”
LOL!
I’m stealin this.
Everywhere in the world except the USA and parts of Europe, you have to work to survive. That means you must convince someone to hire you, show up ready to work on a regular basis, learn your job, do it diligently, refrain from mind alternating drugs and alcohol during your shift and don’t steal goods or money from your employer. The exceptions are gangsters and leaders. Even there there is a need for discipline. If that sounds racist to you, I’d suggest a little introspection.
If millenials were color-blind (hence post-racist) they would not have gone to Ferguson. They would have ignored it, or treated it as merely a civil disturbance to be disciplined by application of law as it stands without bending.
Newspeak incorporates doublethink, as it contains many words that create assumed associations between contradictory meanings,
especially true of fundamentally important words such as good and evil,
right and wrong, truth and falsehood, and justice and injustice.
