PUNISHING BIGOTED SPEECH ON CAMPUS March 12, 2015 by Bill Donahue Bill Donohue comments on the decision by the University of Oklahoma to expel two fraternity students for making racist comments

Anti-Catholicism is tolerated on campuses in a way that is not true of other expressions of bigotry. If anyone has any doubts about this, let him go to the websites of civil rights groups that represent gays, blacks, Jews, and Muslims, and then compare the findings to those found on the website of the Catholic League (check the Education section in our Annual Reports).

Patently anti-Catholic plays, artwork, comments by instructors, cartoons, editorials, etc. abound. From professors who intentionally desecrate the Eucharist to students whose idea of art is to craft a huge vagina—in a grotto-like shape (complete with human hair)—and then place a statue of Our Blessed Mother inside it—Catholics have had to endure more bigotry on campus than any other group.

In 1998, the anti-Catholic play “Corpus Christi” was performed in New York. I led a demonstration protesting it. Three years later when it was staged at a mid-western university, I again protested, but I also refused to join a lawsuit against the university.

In short, any discussion of bigoted speech on campus should begin by asking why anti-Catholicism is tolerated, but objectionable speech aimed at others is not.

Could be.

It’s not the same time frame, but a little later. Jan Hus was burned for being a heretic in 1415. He pre-dated Martin Luther, who was influenced by him.

As far as Obama’s Muslim influenced history, it’s not just wrong but evil.

The Crusades were mounted as a response to Islamic conquest of all the Holy Lands, and it was 3 centuries too late. But the so-called atrocities were a response to depravity.

He completely misunderstands and misconstrues the entire history. As usual, he depicts the victims as the aggressors.

What I don’t get is how a nation founded by dissident Christians submits to being ruled by a sympathizer with the people who sought to exterminate them.

Would Israel submit to the bastard son of an SS officer ruling them?

Ha! We agree! You know, Hus is often credited for starting the protestant church.

Lots of wrong has been committed in the name of religion. I am sick of the attacks on christianity while the powers that be look the other way and bend over backwards for islam.

You might be interested in “God’s Battalions”, by Rod Stark.

The subtitle is “the case for the Crusades”, so you can guess what the context is.
