The Algarve Cup is a global invitational tournament for national teams in womens football. Held annually in the Algarve region of Portugal since 1994, it is one of the most prestigious womens football events and takes on added significance as the 2015 Womens World Cup kicks off in just over three months time in Canada.
Germany will be back in the Algarve to defend their title and will look to have the best possible preparation after hosting the World Cup in 2011 where they failed to finish in the final four.
Winners in Germany, Japan, will be in the Algarve, and will be joined by the United States, World Cup runners-up and Sweden and France who ended third and fourth respectively.

At 2.10pm, the defending World Cup champions will take the field in Parchal to face Denmark (live on Eurosport International HD), while Portugal kicks off its campaign against France at the same venue three hours later (Eurosport International HD).

The victories over Norway and Switzerland also draw the U.S. women closer to a potential Algarve Cup final against France, which has also won both of its first two matches.
U.S. coach Jill Ellis continued to tinker with her lineup in the match as the team prepares for the World Cup. The United States opens Group D play with Australia in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on June 8.
"I'm sick of losing," Lloyd said. "I'm sick of all the naysayers out there saying that you're second in the world, the U.S. is done, they had a horrible Algarve Cup last year. You know, I'm a winner. I want to win. It may not be pretty. It may not be shutouts but I'm a veteran. I've got to lead this time. I've got to show up at big moments. I'm just tired of losing."
