The good thing about a book like Ghettoside: A True Story of Murder in America is that it's real reportage about murder in the African American ghetto; it's not just narrative from the usual social justice warriors.
Author Leovy's angle is that routine murder in African American ghettos is invisible, in the sense that individual murders don't get a write-up in the paper. So she decided to do something about it, The Homicide Report, a blog that documents each and every murder in LA.
Each murder, routine as it is, devastates a family, but the cops only arrest a suspect in about 40 percent of the murders. To add insult to injury, the cops compensate by harassing young men on the street with arrests for minor infractions.
Of course, everybody knows “who dunnit” because the perpetrators typically come around to the victim's home and taunt the grieving family.
Why would they do that? Because the gang-bangers need to intimidate potential witnesses. Thus, everybody knows who did it, but nobody is willing to testify. Here's the scoop, buried in the middle of the Fresh Air interview:
[Leovy:] I spoke to a mother, once, in South Bureau - black woman - her son had just been murdered. I think this was maybe a couple of days after the murder. I had gone to her door. And it was one of these cases where the police just had no witnesses. The case wasn't going anywhere. The mother told me that since the murder, the killers, who she knew, who were, I think, the gang members who lived on her street, had been knocking on her door and taunting her and laughing at her - her grief.

To be hard for a moment; does anyone care about black on black killing?
Yeah I worked in a really liberal office and my co workers were so outraged by Travon...Ferguson.. The Klan....when I bought up summer is coming soon and the Gangster Disciples are going to go on their killing spree in Chicago.... They all said.. Well that’s different.
Why should anyone care about it when blacks themselves don’t unless they can somehow blame the evil white man?
OTOH, justifiable homicide is another matter.
They know they will get the Black vote no matter what.
I confess that I have never lost a meal because they are killing each other in Chicago, and elsewhere.
The auther means leftists, socialists, communists. It simply because blacks murdering each other doesn’t cause division and hatred like a white man doing it.
Why Don’t Liberals Care About Black-on-Black Killing?
Because it would shine the light on Democratic Party’s liberal policies that are destroying Black families and their culture. Can’t have that because it ruins their narrative of America being a right-wing, racist society. Well, we do have a more polarized, racist America today because of the liberals!
They care. Their solution to the problem is to ban the second amendment.
It’s a double-standard thing. If it wasn’t for double-standards, Liberals would have no standards at all.
Doesn’t play into their power grab drama scenario.
Why don’t Americans care about the huge wave of black on white crime?
Liberals see things as primarily about power, and they look at things as a dynamic between someone with power and someone without power (or at the very least, less power).
They will pathologically side with the entity without power over the person with power. To them, that’s justice.
Conservatives tend to see things using their value system: good and evil, right and wrong.

In the eyes of the Left (including “Obama”) black people are vermin. When a teenaged thug gets gunned down by another teenaged thug, it’s just the remedying of a slip-up by Planned Parenthood.
Because they can’t use it to manipulate blacks.
Liberals don’t care about Black on Black crime for the obvious reason they don’t care about Black people who the segregate as different from White people. Conservatives view you as who YOU are, not what special group you belong to that they can marginalize and take advantage of. Thanks be to God that Whites and Asians have not been HELPED by the government, there would be no one left to support the country. Not all Blacks have fallen for this, we have many friends and associates who view their skin color as just that, their skin color. Others, who have fallen for the government line, view Black as their identity. Too bad for them, they will never value themselves for who they are, but rather for who the government says they are.
Remember also, if something is not your fault, you cannot fix it.
Why Don’t Liberals Care About Black-on-Black Killing? Because Liberals don’t value life.
Because they don’t care about black people as individual human beings. Black people are disposable, and can be consumed by the liberal “cause”. Liberals don’t believe black people can accomplish anything without the Kindly Assistant of Good Liberals—the bigotry of low expectations.
