Yes, most people have to borrow to buy a home. But many have paid off their mortgages. Yes, many people have to borrow to buy a car. But many have paid them off or paid cash for cheaper transportation they drive till thedoors fall off. Some people charge up to their ears and struggle to stay afloat, but others defer the goodies until and unless they can pay for them.

In the 1970s a Soviet pilot defected by flying his MiG to Japan; as he became acclimated to living in the US, somebody explained debt slavery to him. He said Russians would much prefer that to what they had instead - debt-free with nothing.
Slavery is the same as a 100% tax rate on income. Any lesser percent is merely a matter of degree.
