Highly trained pilots are the most precious resource that can’t be replaced fast enough if an air force is being trampled. No kidding, pilots killed by bomber crews. Not replaced because of Hitler's stupidity. Notice the date, 5 years of attrition.

If enemy airfields were the bombers' destinations - even if they missed - the same attrition would have happened.
