No A/C, no heating. Gun laws suck (no CCW if that matters), but there are a very hard corps percentage of haoles and Hawaiians that are determined not to be disarmed.
Have to ask my wife about tax stuff, but they do not tax retirement income, AFAIK.
If I ever did move (likely without the wife, she loves it here) it would be to Arizona. Deal with whatever, and know I do not have to be snowed in for four months.

I have a friend who just moved back to my neck of the woods after 11 years in Hawaii. He is a dark skinned Mexican American, but he told me that the native Hawaiians hate mainland Americans and that made it unbearable to live there.
Most FReepers apparently hate it, even without ever visiting it, but I love Hawaii.

I’ve driven off the main roads in Kauai. There’s a lot of guns and hunting going on out there.
I was stationed in Hawaii for 3 1/2 years. You forgot to mention the big population of homosexuals.
