“Another part of this humiliation comes from just about every new comedian and sadly, every new preacher. “

When’s the last time we saw a competent, confident husband/father portrayed in a TV sit-com? Years ago my kids liked to watch the Disney channel, and I found it very troubling that every single dad in the shows was a lazy, bumbling oaf, always needing their much smarter wives to save the day.

yep, and even on NCIS - who’s the boss? Either a woman or the black guy? Who is the only character in the series to have a normal family? The black guy.

BUT wait, it just dawned on me...Law and Order Criminal Intent - always has the while male super cop and his white female assistant. Damn. We found one.

Tim Allen does pretty good in Last Man Standing. And he is very conservative in the show.

Well, the newest ones I can think of was "My Three Sons" and the emotional but undeniably loving dad in "The Courtship of Eddie's Father". Of course they were widowers.

Robert Reed's problems aside, Mike Brady was mostly competant if didactic, and battles of thes sexes episodes were mostly a draw.

I never watched the Cosby show, so I don't know about Dr. Huxtable.

Geroge Burns was portrayed well in Burns and Allen. But form the same era, Ralph Kramden was the prototype of the problem the article describes in the Honeymooners.

Junk, Tim Allen in Last Man Standing is a take no crap, conservative Dad. Brutally in your face conservative at times.

And Nancy Travis is still great looking for a 52 year old woman.

I think the Dad in “The Middle” is a stand up guy too. Granted, its comedy but he is just a hard working dad who along with his wife raised good kids.

Both of the above are good clean shows.

Disney understood that moms have much more control over what young kids see on TV and in the movies than dads do.
