I’ve been health insurance free since January 1, 2014. First time in my 60 years I’ve been without health insurance. It is weirdly freeing. However, I ended up having to pay for my own health care. I’m out $50. :-(
You’d better hope that nothing serious happens to you. My friend got lymphoma, followed by stage 4 heart failure, so far the treatments have cost over one million dollars, far more than the $50 you just paid.
Another person I know had leukemia, which killed her eventually, but the treatments that extended her life for several years ran into the millions.
There are very few Americans who could afford to pay a million dollars to stay alive with some hideous disease, and I doubt you’re one of them...
Of course, you may be of the opinion that if you get heart disease or cancer, it’s the proper thing to just let the disease kill you, but there are many people who would rather stay alive and watch their children grow, watch their grandkids get married, etc., and for that, if a horrible disease strikes, they probably need some form of health insurance...
