I remember the critics also hated "The Cable Guy" and when I saw it I laughed like hell. One of my favorite comedies ever.

Yep. Go back and read the reviews of classic movies that are still shown regularly on TV after decades, and you usually will see them panned by critics of the day. Meanwhile movies they gushed over are long forgotten.
