That’s right: “Triangular trade”. One example, sugar/molasses harvested by slaves was shipped from the Caribbean to New England where it was made into rum.
The rum was exchanged by the Yankees for manufactured goods which were then shipped (via trade winds) to west Africa and bartered with east African Arab slavers (like Zero’s kin) for slaves.
The slaves were then shipped to the Americas (the ‘middle passage’) and to the Indies to provide more molasses.
Caribbean>New England>Africa> rinse, repeat
New England was industrializing so it didn’t need slaves like the more agrarian South, but they profited as well from the slave trade.

And while of course the slave trade needed stopping at any time and every time, the way it was stopped meant the northerners made their profits from the trade and then the buyers’ purchases “disappeared.” Again, no human beings should BE products. But it is not less reprehensible to SELL HUMANS AND GET TO KEEP THE PROFITS, which was never taken from the northern traders. The slave owners lost their “commodities” as they should have. But the rich northerners kept that money.
