The reason that GOP presidential candidates used to do quite well among the Hispanic demographic and don't anymore is quite simple.

When Reagan was president, most of them were legal. Even the illegals among the bunch wanted mostly an opportunity to make it here. For those who remember the Reagan funeral, that is why field workers stopped what they were doing when the funeral procession passed and stood respectfully by the side of the road to pay their respects.
