Since black lives do not appear to matter to blacks, given the level of black on black murder, why should the rest of us be concerned? < /rhetoric >
Black-on-black crime does matter.
One of my co-workers lost her nephew in a shooting. The victim had words with another guy about a girl in a club and as he was leaving the other guy shot him in the back.
The victim mattered a lot to his aunt, mom and other relatives, including twin toddler daughters. Apparently he was the sane one in the little girls’ lives. But he’s gone.
Another co-worker, also black, was telling me about which neighborhoods in town where you don’t stop, even for red lights, and how to avoid being a victim. This is a guy who just shakes his head when he talks about his dear departed hometown of Detroit. He also told me about defensive driving in Detroit — drive through yards if you have to, don’t stop.
These are good people who live with fear, loss and grief.
I am sure they are not the only ones.
