Any day now, I am expecting to turn on the tube and see an ad that says, More Americans get their TV news from Fox than anywhere else..
Whether that pleases or horrifies you, its time to think seriously about what that says about Fox, CNN, MSNBC, the state of network news today and the role TV plays or doesnt play in providing us with reliable, trustworthy information.
Much of the media establishment seems bent on ignoring the incredible ratings success of Fox News. Or, maybe its just that Fox has pounded CNN and MSNBC in the ratings for so long that another victory doesnt seem like news especially with MSNBC imploding and CNN committing to any genre but news in an effort to find new audiences.

A) They are actually available when I want to watch local news.
B) Sure there is a bias, but it offsets the bias of other outlets.
C) There are NO unbiased news channels in this country.
The Penguins are awesome in the series too. Rico is the best.

FNC will occasionally show facts and make observations that other networks refuse to show. Plus, their “pundits” tend to be more from the right side of the political spectrum. While not truly Tea Party-level conservative, it definitely beats the other networks...simply because the lib networks steadfastly refuse to air uncomfortable things that everybody else sees.
No need to apologize for Fox. Research by a left-wing university (can’t remember which one) showed that they are slightly right of center. Just about everybody else is left or far left. If Fox was a total sell out to conservatives it would be an incredibly boring news resources. They use left wingers as they should be used...to give the left-wing perspective. I have no problem with that. I want to know what those bastards are thinking. Remember, balanced news is a win for conservatives, because on a balanced playing field, the conservative argument almost always wins. We did not have that forum 20 years ago.
I think that, while the ratings news is good, the stats are deceptive. If I did the math correctly, the true comparison is left-wing news outs 16.2 million, slightly right of center news (Fox) 6.2 million. Doesn’t look as good now, does it?
I use to use this point with a friend in the radio business whose rock station repeatedly out-rated the pop stations. “But,” I would point out, “how do you rate when you add all the pop stations together, given that there are four or five of them and only one rock station?”
Answer: “Oh...”
Damn... I’m thinking like Laz.
Sorry but I have seen numerous people at Fox presenting the right side of the issue. Your critique is frankly wrong!!!
It might be wrong...but it’s mine. Isn’t that what this board is all about, varying opinions? Or should we rename it “Free Ontap”?
I had an argument with an Obama sycophant about this.
I tell him that yes, Fox is a right-leaning network where you do actually hear liberal opinions from liberals.
The other networks are liberal networks where you hear liberals who consider conservatives to be heinous give the conservative opinion.
People who hold those opinions don’t like to be insulted.
“I know Bechtel and Juan Williams are pains in the rear to listen to.”
Beckel and Williams outnumber the conservatives on all liberal stations combined, by 2.
Actually, Fox does give more than one side of the story. Sometimes it gives three sides of the story: GOPe, conservative and leftist. Depends on the program.
And there are several leftist and GOPe commentators on Fox that are automatic mute button material. Sometimes, what particular people will say is so predictable it's a total waste of time to even listen.
The nation is so polarized on many issues, nothing is learned by listening when you already know what a particular group thinks about an issue.
I always thought that the lefties that FOX gives a audience were of the variety that exposed how, um, not-too-bright they are.
They have to do so much twisting and bending and make themselves look very stupid sometimes to defend the undefendable. Honestly, would anyone at all be impressed and listed to Colmes? Williams? Leslie Marshall?
The “right” point of view is based on fact and sense. The “left point of view is based on pie-in-the-sky theory and feelings. Which is easier to support?
And there never have been! We are all biased, and that is not necessarily a bad thing. I am biased in favor of Christian doctrine and conservative politics; I believe God's will to be found in the teachings of the Bible, and I want my government, to the extent it doesn't get in the way of God, to follow Aristotle and Locke. Everything I say and write reflects this bias. If every media source admitted its bias as I have just admitted mine, then there would be no problem with bias in the media--there would be bias in the media as there always is and always has been, but there would be no problem, because the audience would know up front what the bias was, and listen/read/view accordingly.
I did not know that. Maybe the networks kick ass in older demos.
We watched network news one night just for a kick. I told Mrs. Keat, "Millions of people think this is all that happened today." It was crazy, they just wholesale ignore any story doesn't push the lefty agenda.
Fox News is pretty good, but I'll flip to CNN too. I can filter.
Fox News Radio, if you've ever heard it, is crazy liberal, like PBS crazy.
My vote for most politically incorrect film goes to Blazing Saddles.
They’ll get more conservative as they get older and more settled.
Do yourself a favor and watch Madagascar 2... you’ll thank me. NO racial group is spared.
6.6+5.4+4.2+3.1+1.9+1.6+ 22.8 million.
The real story might be that a whopping 22.8 million, out of what, 200 million adults, watched any TV elections returns at all. Somewhere around 10%. Of course, some people got their election return news by other methods, but that is a tiny number of all adults.
Low information voters, or non-voters make up by far the largest group.
Are you kidding...kind of thin skinned aren’t we...grow up!!!
