My recollection is that of all the guns the Mexican government collected at murder scenes, the Mexicans only asked the US government to "trace" the ones they thought originated from the US, which were a small fraction of the overall collection.
Thus, of the overall total of guns used in murders in Mexico, the guns from American gun shops were actually some fraction smaller than 90%.
