The idea of teenagers as a group took off in the 1940s courtesy of ad agencies. Before then, a person was either a child (0-12) or an adult (13-100+).

Hell I’m lucky I didn’t get shot when I was a teenager.

"The first thing he hollered, we is teenagers, don't shoot me," Is that the Royal We?
Either way it makes no grammatical sense.

In Africa, the revolutionaries recruit children 12 and up to fight and the younger fighters in the 15-16 year old range are the most dangerous and vicious fighters they have because they are grown up enough to every bit as much damage as adults, they are more violent and they have less inhibitions than older fighters

A lot of our troops overseas are teenagers. Teenagers can be as deadly and dangerous as anyone if that is their job or inclination.

“We is teenagers...”, and we is illiterate.
Translation:
‘We are allowed to kill you (or worse) and steal from you. You are NOT allowed to defend yourself.’
