Horror story? Talk about delusional. America is the greatest country on this earth and if they can’t see that, there is no hope for them. They need to care more about the character of their souls than the color of their skin. Pull themselves up by the bootstraps and get busy improving their own lot in life. It can be done.
I’d have to say no, “pulling oneself up by the bootstraps” is as impossible as the metaphor that was created for it. All we do there is salute self pride. Self-pride quickly loses true dignity and true purpose. It says “Look how great we are” rather than “Look how great God was to us.”
But progressing by means of God’s grace is extremely possible. This is going to require their disavowing the Wrong Rev. Wright’s “God Damn America” credo. Because the curse comes down on the curser too.
