All the fish, chicken, QP, Big Mac, etc came later.
No drivethru or seats inside, just the kitchen and sales counter. They did have "seats" - ledges built in to the outside of the building where you could hang out if the weather was good.
Those ledges build in to the outside of the building are a lot harder to throw around though, no? (Hmmm, maybe Philly franchise owners want to consider...)
They still have some “McDonalds Express” around; I believe it is just a drive-through and walk-up (no seats).
The last time I was physically inside a McDonalds was years ago when they wouldn’t deal with panhandlers INSIDE. It was hard to say I didn’t have change when they watched me get it at the counter, but I did anyway; guess I figured I’d be a millionaire if they wanted to brawl (they didn’t).
I seem to recall shakes back then as well, but we just went for the 15 cent burgers & the fries, with a coke.
