Russian President Vladimir Putin said November 4 that he sees nothing wrong with the Molotov-Ribbentrop non-aggression pact that the Soviet Union made with Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Germany just days before World War ii broke out.

The Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact was a promise of non-belligerence by either party toward the other. Just a week after it was signed, Germany invaded Poland, officially igniting World War ii.

“Serious research must show that those were the foreign policy methods then,” Putin said to a group of young historians in Moscow. “The Soviet Union signed a non-aggression treaty with Germany. People say: ‘Ach, that’s bad.’ But what’s bad about that if the Soviet Union didn’t want to fight; what’s bad about it?”

But the details of the Molotov–Ribbentrop agreement show that it was no declaration of pacifism by the Soviets.

He is flying a Russian flag, everyone can see it. External enemies are less dangerous than internal ones. Especially in this case. Putin's Russia is a shadow of the empire. When there's a political will on the western side, they can be squashed like a fly on the wall. Without one bullet shot. But that might be difficult with hordes of strange individuals polluting confused public with nonsense like “Russia is our key ally against islamists”, “Trade with Russia is critical to economic recovery”, “Putin is promoting Chrisitian values” and so on and so on. KGB has activated all their assets for this massive action, including various “bloggers” and countless fringe “news sites” full of that garbage. This is really dangerous, not some random Ivan or two. Personally I don't blame Russians for what they are going. They have always been like that. You can't expect anything better. It would be like expecting islamists to stop jihad.
