They were selling it for $85 a brick (500 rounds) or $10 for a box of 50. Those prices are a bit high. I have seen .22 ammo in a gun store in Yuma, Arizona, for $3.19 a box of 50 just a month ago.

Just early last week in Walmart (Rio Rancho, NM) they had a 1,000-round box of Winchester M*22 (I now have 500 of those rounds) for $52.00+ tax, and they had at least 20 250-round boxes of Remington .22lr hollowpoints, and at least 20 325-round boxes of Federal .22lr. And it was there past 10 AM.

I talked to the normal counter guy, and he said it was coming in much more regularly.

They have a 3-box limit on ammo. I bought the 1,000 rounds and then got a box of hollowpoints for a buddy. That 250-round box was $12.00 with tax. I sold the other half of the 1,000 rounds to another buddy. At cost. I'm out to rip anyone off.

They pawn shop in your story however, is.

I found three boxes of Federal 500 round bricks I bought about 25 years ago that I had forgotten about. It still shoots ok in most of my guns although it is FEDERAL. I also found a few boxes of Winchester I bought at OTASCO many years ago. Digging around I found another 250 rounds of Remington that came in a coffee cup.

A month ago I bought 100 rounds of Remington I found at Walmart. They had two boxes of 100 rounds so I bought only one and left the other for someone else.

I always try to keep one box on hand after I had to chase of a dog 50 years ago with a single shot .22 and only ONE cartridge in the house.

I paid $2.49 for 50 American Eagle 22LR yesterday at Cabela’s.

They also had CCI standard velocity for $4.99 for 50.

Limit 100 per customer.

These were at Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.

That is good news. $24 for 500 rounds is starting to get close to reasonable.

When it drops to $2 for 50 rounds, and there is plenty available, we will know the bubble has burst.

CCI is reportedly manufacturing 4 million rounds per day and can’t keep up with demand.

With that kind of production numbers, everybody in the country can have one round every three months.

Yeah, I got a 500-pack of .22LR for about $14 before the whole panic thing set in a few years ago. Oh, to have stocked up a whole lot more.

“With that kind of production numbers, everybody in the country can have one round every three months.”

There are several other manufacturers than CCI.

I recall max national production at about 4 billion rounds a year. That would be about one round per person per month.

Once inside, I was informed that they had run out of .22 ammunition the day before.

...

At which point they should have taken down the sign.
