"One big shopping trip to the store and its pretty much done, assuming that you dont have to go to work or leave the house like most people do."
How long would those supplies last--two years...ten? Ebola is spreading very slowly but very surely. One big shopping trip to the store wouldn't yield enough supplies for long at all. Even many trips wouldn't cover everything needed for only a short while, because very few people are thinking realistically or honestly.

You really think we are discussing locking our front door and closing off the world for 2 to 10 years?
I don’t think that is the conversation we are having, nor should be wasting time on, is that the plan for yourself, 10 years without leaving the house, because some people have Ebola?

You have to remember that Mr. Duncan was on hemodialysis which meant dealing with his blood and a lot of it...It is so easy to break protocol it only takes touching one contaminated item with an ungloved hand

Being from Africa they might have an immunity.
Nobody knows exactly why some people get it from being exposed to someone and other people don’t that are exposed to the same person.
I remember reading they know of one group in Africa that has a natural immunity to at least one strain of Ebola.

They might very well be immune, or they were never in the house to begin with. My Mom is immune to chicken pox, never got the vaccine and all of us had the chicken pox but she never got it. She had a blood test and it showed she is immune to it, not sure if someone can be immune to Ebola, I doubt it, which makes me think they were never in the house

"You really think we are discussing locking our front door and closing off the world for 2 to 10 years?"
Yes, that's the discussion and topic here. See the posted article and thread. I'm saying that nearly no one will have the resources to avoid all human contact for the duration of the epidemic. Ebola will likely be spreading longer than anyone can avoid human contact. It spreads very slowly and surely.
"I dont think that is the conversation we are having,..."
Yes, that's exactly the conversation. See the posted article and thread. My earlier comment stated, "They dont realize how long Ebola is likely to be around."

Retirees and the rich, and welfare people wouldnt have much to worry about. Which still leaves the vast majority of the country at extreme risk of infection, should this thing really get out of control.
I'm already wondering how on earth I'm going to make a living if the people of Dallas county go into a full-blown panic.

There are pictures of them coming out of the apartment, they were there.
The idiot county judge was in the apartment as was the deputy sheriff that served papers for forced quarantine.
If his family doesn’t get Ebola then the main question for the CDC should be why didn’t they get it, is there a natural immunity.

I still cant figure out how this guys family members did NOT get sick..they were in that house Yeah, that's the one aspect of all this that makes little sense. By all logic, those people should have come down with Ebola. They were in the same house with someone who was exhibiting full-blown symptoms.
The story we've heard, is that the grown daughter of Duncan's girlfriend jumped straight into sanitizing everything in the apartment and keeping contact between Duncan and the rest of them at zero, while she got the authorities to respond to the crisis.
It's been said that the daughter saved everyone's life.

I’ll give a clue as to the kind of person most likely to get the virus. Let’s say that someone is driving and sees a driver in front of them signaling to slow down and turn off of a narrow highway. That someone would be more likely to tailgate and honk at the driver turning off and would also be more likely to get the virus.
Another scenario. Some folks are looking for innocent people to blame altogether for the virus. Those folks are more likely to die from it.
That’s grounded in reality: the way natural interactions work. But many wouldn’t be capable of understanding the relationships involved.

You really ought to stop spamming every Ebola thread with that same post. Some of us have now seen it dozens of times.
We get it, okay?

Saranex coated tyvek, rubber over-boots, a full face respirator and proper taping and later decontamination and removal procedures are actually quite affordable, probably under 150 bucks to kit out, then 5-20 bucks unit cost for each suit, boxes of disposable inner gloves (latex or nitrile), and replacement respirator cartridges.
Google some Health and Safety Plans for hazmat/emergency response, they have essentially the needed decon instructions and way to move through the exclusion zones/decon/safe area...

No, that isn’t the discussion at all, I have no idea what you are talking about.
People trying to survive inside their homes for 2 to 10 years to avoid catching Ebola, it is nonsensical, have you already started?

It won’t become a full blown panic but I do hope that it stirs up people and politicians enough that it ends the complacency, and that we start truly preparing for the bioterrorism attacks that will probably come at some time in the future.

That's right. Those who fail to understand how anti-social behaviors accompany risky behaviors probably won't be convinced, though.
"
...don't leave the house for 10 years."
You may stay with that choice, if you like. But I did a fair job of explaining that it won't work. As I wrote, Ebola is likely to be around for a long time.
It is true, though, that
bureaucrats and their government-linked business associates are dumbfounded by instruction in complicated, realistic methods for avoiding illness in an epidemic.
