There are several "Coos Bays" in the People's Republic of Oregon. You have to move eastward from the Willamette River corridor (the path of Interstate 5) to find much sanity in that hopelessly blue state.

Some of the smaller towns along the Pacific coast aren't too bad (touristy mostly) and as you move eastward beyond I-5 OR is rural and decent; but along I-5 are the major cities which contain the kooks and dominate OR politics (especially Portland and environs).

Are you aware of Portland's informal and popular slogan? It's "Keep Portland Weird". And they mean it.
