The debate is a final do or die for Alex Salmond who had big problems last time to explain how an independent Scotland could keep the pound despite Westminster saying no to a monetary union. Another problem for Salmond is the fact that he wants to remain in the EU (stupid him!) but how he is going to do that without accepting the euro is a problem he should have solved before putting the question to the people.
As I understand it, based on Quebec’s battle for independence, it can keep the pound and Britain could not stop that However, by adopting another country’s currency, Scotland would be held hostage to the policy set by Westminster, for better or worse.
