The comments following your essay in the WRSA are also interesting - especially the comments from those who believe Allah is the same god as the God of Jews and Christians. Those people need to be identified and carefully watched, so that when TSHTF, they will have a big decision to make. They are the ones who belong on the DHS list of security risks, not Tea Party people and common every day Conservative citizens.

Will read the post more thoroughly later. Unsure if you’ve heard of Khayyam, the 11th century persian poet, mathematician & some call him a ‘mystic sufi’ too. He is generally known to be an apostate among practicing muslims. In one poem referring to arab-muslim invaders of iran he wrote: “You drink the blood of men, we drink the blood of grapes,
Be fair, which one of us is more bloodthirsty?” — again, unsure how familiar you’re with traditional persian literature, poetry & culture which is largely based on zoroastrianism & later (had to) incorporate islamic sensitivities or be mindful of it to be acceptable ... drinking wine isn’t prohibited in zoroastrianism. Anyhow, historically the natives of those lands conquered by islam knew islamic savagery quite well. But must add that mongol invasion was even more barbaric than muslim arab one in iran.

That’s very true. Am thinking their aim wasn’t to destroy islam, more to conquer land, gain ruling power, and take revenge. They destroyed the Abbasid arab caliphate in Baghdad though, many other muslim rulers elsewhere along with tens of thousands people burning entire cities/towns. But religiously mongols were quite tolerant. I suppose being a bunch of nomadic tribes, it was easy for them to assimilate & give into the more dominant culture. Especially by the 13th C. islam was fairly embedded in central asia. On that note, muslims haven’t always and only used brutality to convert others. Dissimulation is another technique they often use to entice ppl. I read your essay, it’s great!
